The Graveyard Book

Describe the image in five words.   Dark.                                              Mysterious.                                    Cereal killer.                                       Intense.                                           Psychotic.

Why was it polished? What might this suggest? Why?                            It was polished because he planned the attack on the family, and he came prepared.

Why darkness? How is this an important part of the setting?           The author choose darkness to show it was after dark. He choose darkness because it shows that his senses were heightened at could see in the moonlight.                        This sentence creates/shows tension                                                 “Its light was not bright, and it was diffused by the mist, but the man jack would not need much light.

This shows tension because it identifies that jack had done this before and also had practiced how to reveal objects in the darkness.

“It’s light was not bright, and it was diffused  by the mist”.                        This sentence says that the location was full and gloomy, sheeted with mist. Making the area somewhat  mystical or dangerous because usually (based on books or/and films)once you see mist appear something bad/important is about to go down.                                                  Is the setting important? What did the writer choose for the events to happen at night?                               It’s important because it sets the scene. Without the scene we would be lost.                                                 The writer chooses night because it also sets the mood.

“Teenagers are lazy monsters”

I’d have to say not all teenagers are lazy monsters. I would like to point out I’m part of the non lazy side. Sure there are some lazy monsters out there but not all teens are like that. Some are very nice people, just stuck in this stereotype.

Biologically, teenagers are very different than children and young adults. All humans produce a hormonal substance called melatonin. This helps us fall asleep, but with teens there is an increase of it making us more sleepy. In adults it is produced  at 10pm, but in teens it is released at one in the morning. This is a three hour delay that may be caused by the behaviour of the adolescent mind. So truthfully it’s not our fault we’re tired most of the time, we can just about get to sleep anyway. Even when we do awaken, we get up at three o’clock in the morning. So basically we are being kept conscious by our own bodies at night. Personally I’m a bit of a night owl, but now and again I go to sleep early. Even when I do I only sleep for a good six hours, then I wake up moody, but that’s just me.

Teenagers are known as aggressive, evil, stupid and hated by a lot of people. In contrast to that stereotype, most of us are independent, responsible and are aware of what’s going on in our surroundings. Unfortunately we are portrayed as scary animals who are feared, yet we do absolutely nothing.

This is why I think that the statement “Teenagers are lazy monsters” is untruthful. On the other hand people may disagree with me. This is because they might say teens have it easy, they don’t have to go to work early in the morning to pay rent, taxes, food and clothing ect. Balancing that fact general adults have to say, teenagers have to still go to important places. Having to learn about subjects that we sometimes don’t even need. Some of us teenagers actually have a part time job trying to earn money for themselves and maybe even for some parents, who can’t go to work because of their own disabilities and purposes. So even with the late melatonin produce, the grumpiness, school and sometimes even work added on to the several hours of studying and more, that we have to do to get a proper job, we should actually have the privilege to be lazy monsters.

Teenagers need a break from all the homework. We have to wake up around six o’clock five times a week, or even earlier. Teenagers have a life to live. This is the time they find out who they really are and experience the ups and downs of being a teenager. We need to do some stuff on our own.

Sometimes teenagers flunk their school work because of home related problems, but they receive no comfort. The pressure from school makes them feel like their not wanted from society because no one cares about their feelings. Being rejected is probably (based purely on my thoughts and experience in the past) one of the worst things in the world, because you might of given so much towards that something but it could not even be bothered to accept you in. Imagine feeling that every day for months, not one of the best feelings ever is it?

Being a teen is a complicated subject, we get these so called mood swings, but I like to call it a disadvantage because that’s what mood swings really are. Being a teen is a hard stage in life. No-one knows how or what you are feeling. This is because we have to mask our feelings, because if we express them people can take advantage of you. Teens become different in this period, our bodies experiences changes, our sense of style differ even our sense of music change, but most importantly our minds become different, imagination, sense and emotion, these all altar and most of these differences occur during sleep. So in a good way, a teenager’s sleep is very vital to them.

Now this essay probably sums up most of the fact that this is why I definitely disagree with the statement ” Teens are lazy monsters”.
